An impressionist painter with authentic passion and vision, landscape artist Rupert Aker conveys the experience and wonder of the natural world through each of his emotive paintings. Equipped with oils and palette knife, Rupert aims to capture the effects of the light on the land, working en plein air wherever possible. He says,
“Nothing can replace being outside and experiencing the natural world in its raw state, but if I can at least capture the essence of it, I am happy. I hope to create an emotional response through my painting—whether it be a sense of peace and calm or drama and energy.”
Rupert is a self-taught artist, with his love and understanding of the countryside underpinned by reading land management at the Royal Agricultural University, and throughout his life living and working alongside farmers and foresters. Though he had studied art up to A Level, he initially pursued a career in estate management. However, his unbridled creativity and love of the arts was such that he continued painting, developing his own style and voice, until he ultimately decided to pursue a career as a professional artist.
In his years as a professional artist, Rupert has continued to thrive and capture the hearts of collectors across the country and further afield, establishing a firmly devoted following. Based in the Cotswolds, he enjoys walking and painting in the surrounding hills and valleys, drawing direct inspiration from their woods, meadows and hedgerows. When not out in the landscape, he works from his studio, now affectionately known as ‘The Loovre’, the town’s converted old public toilets. With collectors and collaborators including Jaime Oliver and the National Trust, Rupert continues to go from strength to strength as he masterfully translates the emotion and rhythm of the landscape.
