Moira Metcalfe

"Since qualifying in fine art in 1976, (foundation year in York, followed by 3 year degree course in fine art at North Staffs Polytechnic) I have pursued my artistic career alongside my life in the Yorkshire Dales, which has been the principal influence over my work.
In that time I have raised 3 children, developed my own studio based gallery and exhibited my work in many local galleries, including The Dales Countryside museum; with the Dales Guild in Hawes, Richmond and Skipton; with Ascot Studios in Lancashire and at Urbis in Manchester 2008.
My work is currently held in several galleries in and around the Dales, Lancashire, and my own studio gallery, at Appersett, Hawes.
I am fortunate enough to have a regular feedback from the public as I am visited by artists and art lovers alike in my open studio. My work produces many varied reactions , never lacking in an abundance of emotion.
My recent work combines a practised knowledge of the fluid lines that are mirrored in both the landscape and waters of the Dales, with a spirit of imagination that produces my own very personal abstract representations. These are taking me more and more away from the representational images that I have been content with in the past and leading my ideas down an ever evolving path, the uncertainty of the destination encouraging my imagination all the way.
It takes a lifetime of experiences to allow the creative spirit to grow to its ultimate goal. I am still growing and embracing all that I pass on the journey."
